DE VIERING VAN EEN MISDAAD: "HONDERD JAAR BALFOUR DECLARATION".
MORAL DECAY
As Noam Chomsky has aptly observed: "People who call themselves supporters of Israel are actually supporters of its moral degeneration and ultimate destruction".
To Remember is not to Own

Holiness, memories, and even the Bible have no connection to political rights. Those rights must stem only from the principles of law and justice, not from the stories of the Bible or the Talmud.
Israelis have a right to their land of course, by dint of the sovereignty of a state that has been recognized by most of the countries in the world. Palestinians also have a right to the land of course, by dint of living in it for generations, and that too must be honored - in two states, or in one.

"Israel is “a thriving democracy, a beacon of tolerance”, when it is obviously neither. She says our two countries share “common values” when we obviously don’t; and given the Israeli regime’s incessant crimes against humanity and cruelty to the indigenous people it terrorises such a remark is insulting to anyone who lives by Christian values. She even claims that Israel is a country where people of all religions “are free and equal in the eyes of the law” and “Israel guarantees the rights of people of all religions, races and sexualities, and it wants to enable everyone to flourish”.

In de laatste Veiligheidsraadresolutie − resolutie 2334 van 23 december 2016 − staat het als volgt: The Security Council, […], reaffirming the obligation of Israel, the occupying Power, to abide scrupulously by its legal obligations and responsibilities under the Fourth Geneva Convention […]. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fourth_Geneva_Convention
‘The Security Council, […]
1. Reaffirms that the establishment by Israel of settlements in the Palestinian territory occupied since 1967, including East Jerusalem, has no legal validity and constitutes a flagrant violation under international law and a major obstacle to the achievement of the twoState solution and a just, lasting and comprehensive peace;

3. Underlines that it will not recognize any changes to the 4 June 1967 lines, including with regard to Jerusalem, other than those agreed by the parties through negotiations;
4. Stresses that the cessation of all Israeli settlement activities is essential for salvaging the two-State solution, and calls for affirmative steps to be taken immediately to reverse the negative trends on the ground that are imperilling the two-State solution;
5. Calls upon all States, bearing in mind paragraph 1 of this resolution, to distinguish, in their relevant dealings, between the territory of the State of Israel and the territories occupied since 1967; […]’

Beide worden door de Israëlische politiek gepropageerd, aldus de organisatie: B’Tselem’s investigation and analysis indicates that these incidents were made possible by an open-fire policy that permits both shooting to kill in instances defined as “incidents of assault” and a trigger-happy approach to demonstrations or stone-throwing. This policy, which is broadly supported by senior officials, conveys profound disregard for the lives of Palestinians. […] This reality is a direct result of the discourse deliberately adopted by ministers and members of Knesset, whose public statements have made it clear that any Palestinian who attacks Israelis − or is suspected of attempting to do so − should be killed.

Why I Dislike Israel – Philip Giraldi
04. Oct, 2012
I don’t like Israel very much. Whether or not I have Jewish friends does not define how I see Israel and is irrelevant to the argument. And as for the Israelis, when I was a CIA officer overseas, I certainly encountered many of them. Some were fine people and some were not so fine, just like the general run of people everywhere else in the world. But even the existence of good upstanding Israelis doesn’t alter the fact that the governments that they have elected are essentially part of a long-running criminal enterprise judging by the serial convictions of former presidents and prime ministers. Most recently, former President Moshe Katsav was convicted of rape, while almost every recent head of government, including the current one, has been investigated for corruption.
Further, the Israeli government is a rogue regime by most international standards, engaging as it does in torture, arbitrary imprisonment, and continued occupation of territories seized by its military.
Worse still, it has successfully manipulated my country, the United States, and has done terrible damage both to our political system and to the American people, a crime that I just cannot forgive, condone, or explain away.
The most recent outrage is Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s direct interference in U.S. domestic politics through his appearance in a television ad appearing in Florida that serves as an endorsement of Republican candidate Mitt Romney. The Netanyahu ad and his involvement in the election has been widely reported in the media and has even been condemned by several leading Jewish congressmen, but it has elicited no response from either Obama or Romney. Both should be condemning in the strongest terms the completely unprecedented intervention by a foreign head of government in an American election. That they are saying nothing is a testament to the power that Israel and its friends in Congress and the media have over the U.S. political establishment. Romney might even privately approve of the ads, as he has basically promised to cede to Netanyahu the right to set the limits for U.S. policy in the Middle East.
And then there are the reasons to dislike Israel and what it represents that go way back. In 1952’s Lavon Affair, the Israelis were prepared to blow up a U.S. Information Center in Alexandria and blame it on the Egyptians. In 1967, the Israelis attacked and nearly sank the USS Liberty, killing 34 crewmen, and then used their power over President Lyndon Johnson to block an investigation into what had occurred. In 1987, Jonathan Pollard was convicted of spying for Israel with investigators determining that he had been the most damaging spy in the history of the United States. In the 1960s, Israelis stole uranium from a lab in Pennsylvania to construct a secret nuclear arsenal. And the spying and theft of U.S. technology continues. Israel is the most active “friendly nation” when it comes to stealing U.S. secrets, and when its spies are caught, they are either sent home or, if they are Americans, receive a slap on the wrist.
And Israel gets away with killing American citizens — literally — in the cases of Rachel Corrie and Furkan Dogan of the Mavi Marmara. And let’s not forget Israel’s treatment of the Palestinians which has made the United States complicit in a crime against humanity. Tel Aviv has also played a key role in Washington’s going to war against Iraq, in promulgating a U.S.-led global war on terror against the Muslim world, and in crying wolf over Iran, all of which have served no U.S. interest. Through it all, Congress and the media are oblivious to what is taking place. Israel is a net recipient of over $123 billion in U.S. aid and continues to get $3 billion a year even though its per capita income is higher than that of Spain or Italy. No one questions anything having to do with Israel while Congress rubber-stamps resolution after resolution virtually promising to go to war on Israel’s behalf.
I have to admit that I don’t like what my own government is doing these days, but I like Israel even less and it is past time to do something about it. No more money, no more political support, no more tolerance of spying, and no more having to listen to demands for red lines to go to war. No more favorable press when the demented Benjamin Netanyahu holds up a cartoon at the U.N. The United States government exists to serve the American people, no more, no less, and it is time that our elected representatives begin to remember that fact

I little more than two years ago I wrote an article for antiwar.com that was entitled “Why I dislike Israel.” The editors were a bit nervous about running it but eventually allowed it to appear after I agreed to some minor deletions. It turned out to be by far the most successful piece I ever did for that website in terms of readership and it attracted 166 comments. My critique was basically that the contrived special relationship with Israel is very bad for the United States on a number of levels. I argued that Washington should treat Israel like any other country, based on actual American national interests. I continue to hold those views, now more than ever as the Israeli government sinks into something approximating madness and drags Washington along with it, and I have often thought that it would be interesting to revisit my discontent with Israel in light of recent developments.www.unz.com | http://www.unz.com/pgiraldi/why-i-still-dislike-israel/

They also obtained nuclear triggers through a spying operation run by Hollywood producer Arnon Milchan that included current Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Unlike two years ago, there are now a lot of mainstream critics of Israel and they are pulling no punches, leaving the phony narrative of Israel as the beleaguered little democracy in a sea of nasty enemies in tatters. Many of the most effective critics are themselves Jewish, having finally decided that enough is enough. I defy anyone to read the first few chapters of Max Blumenthal’s splendid Goliath: Life and Loathing in Greater Israel and come away with any remaining illusions about Israeli society and politics intact. And then there are John Judis’s book Genesis: Truman, American Jews and the Origins of the Arab/Israeli Conflict, Peter Beinart’s The Crisis of Zionism and the Mondoweiss website run by Phil Weiss.
But lacking a presidential election this time around, the vetting of candidates was less focused, though individual congressmen and other elected officials were systematically scrutinized for their views on the Middle East. Fact sheets were distributed to legislators explaining away the attack on Gaza. Candidates perceived as being particularly friendly to Israel continue to receive large donations in support of their campaigns.
In the upcoming year, pro-Israel groups will begin taking all new congressmen on sponsored tours to Israel where they will be presented with what might charitably described as a bowdlerized version of what is taking place in the Holy Land. Congress responds to the largesse by voting resolution after resolution virtually guaranteeing that Washington will go to war on behalf of Israel even if Tel Aviv initiates the fighting. So in the past two years Israel Lobby activity directed at electing and controlling a malleable congress and increasingly even officials at state and local levels continues, but it did not rise to the intensity level seen at the end of 2012 during the presidential race. Unfortunately, it will likely become a lot worse in 2016. Two Jewish mega-billionaires Sheldon Adelson and Haim Saban have been openly discussing funding presidential candidates based solely on how strongly they favor Israel.
But Israeli engagement with Washington power brokers does not end with elections. There is also the little matter of more than $3 billion dollars going from the American taxpayer to Tel Aviv every year on top of more than $123 billion given in total, all in spite of the fact that Israel has a booming economy and an average income level similar to Western Europe.
Washington’s unlimited support for Israel also inspires terrorists to kill Americans. Osama bin Laden described it as a major issue motivating him and his supporters to attack the United States. The partisan U.S. role makes all of Israel’s enemies de facto America’s enemies. Pressure to manipulate Washington’s policy towards Iran has been incessant both directly from Tel Aviv and from the Israel Firsters deeply ensconced in the media and think tank punditry. Israel and its friends want Washington to go to war with Iran and have sought to force the White House to take “red line” positions that would trigger an automatic military response. That an agreement over Iran’s nuclear program has not already been achieved is largely attributable to the actions of the Lobby and runs directly contrary to the interests and desires of Washington and Tehran, both of which should be cooperating to meet the threat of ISIS. Lessening regional tensions would also benefit Israel itself if its leadership were not so immersed in crying wolf over its neighbor while expecting the world to fail to notice its own nuclear arsenal.
And the spying and theft of U.S. technology continues unabated. Israel has long been the most active “friendly nation” when it comes to stealing American secrets, and when its spies are caught, they are either sent home or, if they are U.S. citzens, rarely prosecuted. A little reported recent case in California revealed a new Israeli spying operation at CalTech’s government funded Jet Propulsion Lab. A successful attempt to steal and send to Israel U.S. high technology was characteristically ignored by both the university and Justice Department, leading to punishment of the whistleblower rather than the Israeli scientist involved. Finally there is the worldwide perception of the United States as being firmly in Israel’s pocket, a wag the dog phenomenon that has done grave damage to the integrity and reputation of the U.S. Washington blocks any United Nations resolution that Israel objects to, damaging its own interests and making it complicit in a growing list of war crimes. Further, the United States links itself to an Israeli government identifiable as a rogue regime by most international standards, engaging as it does in torture, arbitrary imprisonment, and continued occupation of territories seized by its military. America’s own torture program was in fact modeled on Israeli practices.
Tel Aviv has also played a key role in encouraging Washington’s own foreign policy blunders, to include the Iraq invasion and a global war on terror widely perceived to be directed against the entire Muslim world. The U.S. also continues to humiliate itself by going through the charade of Middle East peace talks that have demonstrated the hypocrisy of a White House that will never pressure Tel Aviv in any substantive way while demanding instant surrender by the Palestinian leadership.

The Neocons – Israel’s agents – pushed US into war
Which government used its pressure and that of its American agents (i.e., the neocons) to push the United States into the disastrous war in Iraq? It wasn’t Russia, which was among the countries urging the U.S. not to invade; it was Israel and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Indeed, the plans for “regime change” in Iraq and Syria can be traced back to the work of key American neoconservatives employed by Netanyahu’s political campaign in 1996. At that time, Richard Perle, Douglas Feith and other leading neocons unveiled a seminal document entitled “A Clean Break: A New Strategy for Securing the Realm,” which proposed casting aside negotiations with Arabs in favor of simply replacing the region’s anti-Israeli governments.
However, to make that happen required drawing in the powerful U.S. military, so after the 9/11 attacks, the neocons inside President George W. Bush’s administration set in motion a deception campaign to justify invading Iraq, a war which was to be followed by more “regime changes” in Syria and Iran.

PERIPETEIA
In de proloog van zijn boek Hubris. The Tragedy of War In The Twentieth Century (2015) herinnert de Britse auteur Sir Alistair Horne zijn lezers eraan dat de: ancient Greeks defined hubris as the worst sin a leader, or a nation, could commit.
PERIPETEIA
It was the attitude of supreme arrogance, where mortals in their folly would set themselves up against the gods. Its consequences were invariably severe. The Greeks also had a word for what usually followed hubris. That was called peripeteia, meaning a dramatic reversal of fortune.
In practice, it signified a falling from the grace of a great height to unimaginable depths. Disaster would often embrace not only the offender, but also his nearest and dearest, and all those responsible to him.
Having written, over the course of fifty-odd years, numerous books and articles on warfare in its various shapes, some time ago I sat down to reflect on what might be the common features of warfare that stood out over the ages. One that emerged pre-eminently was hubris: wars over the ages have generally been won or lost through excessive hubris on one side or the other. In modern military parlance it might also be dubbed ‘overreach.’
If hubris is part of the of the human condition — deep-seated, lingering, pervasive and potentially lethal — what can we do to avoid it? If it is not just our leaders who ignore history and their own experience, as these chapters have shown, we might conclude that we all have something to learn.
We can go back to where we started in the Prologue, with the ancient Greeks. For Aristotle, aerie (virtue or excellence) was something that falls between two extremes, between excess on the one hand and defect on the other. It is to be judged according to the circumstances — there is no advance prescription that tells us what to do. But we can be guided by recognizing the two extremes and looking for the mean. Hubris is plainly always the extreme of excess, and by accepting that it lies in wait for us — whether we are a warlord or a simple citizen — we are better equipped to avoid it… What we and our leaders need to understand is that the exuberance that follows victory all too easily leads to the wrong decision. Perhaps there are other clues that hubris is creeping up on us. As I have pointed out in these pages, a racist contempt for the enemy has often been a symptom indicating that a leader and even his people are in the grip of hubris — and heading for trouble.
